June 6, 2012 Oklahoma City, OK. -- The Oklahoma City Thunder defeat the San Antonio Spurs 107- 99 in game 6 Thursday night to close out the series. Game 6 resembled game 2 through the first two quarters, as the Spurs led by Tony Parker (29 points) and Tim Duncan (25 points) got off to a huge start. The Spurs were leading at one point by 18 with strong play from Steven Jackson going 6-7 from behind the arch, while they were also racking up offensive rebounds. It wasn’t until the third quarter that the Thunder could close the gap, as they were down 15 at halftime. However they did catch up with their star player, Kevin Durant leading the way. Durant played 48 minutes of the game putting up incredible numbers scoring 35 points, giving 5 assists, and perhaps most important, grabbing 14 defensive rebounds. The final dagger to one of the NBA’s greatest dynasties was Durant’s inside pass to Kendrick Perkins for the slam dunk to make it 107-99 with under 20 seconds to play. After winning 20 straight games, the San Antonio Spurs have lost their final four to a young and upcoming team that proved that they are the ones to beat in 2012. Throughout the playoffs this year, they have dethroned the defending champs, the Dallas Mavericks; as well as stop one of the greatest players in Kobe Bryant and his L.A. Lakers, and now put an end to the heavily favored Spurs. OKC will now seek to win it all against the Celtics or the Heat. The Heat return home tonight to face an elimination game against the Celtics. The winner of this series will play Oklahoma City in the NBA finals.
